Latest Phased Array Simulation Capabilities Using Ansys - Part of Synopsys HFSS

Thursday, October 22

Join Ansys, part of Synopsys, for an in-depth tutorial showcasing the latest simulation techniques and design workflows for phased array antenna systems in HFSS. As phased arrays become increasingly complex, engineers need faster, more efficient methods to evaluate performance across a wide range of operating scenarios. This session will demonstrate practical approaches for reducing simulation time while maintaining accuracy, enabling more rapid design exploration and optimization.

Attendees will learn how to leverage advanced technologies such as the Component Array Domain Decomposition Method (CADDM) for efficient finite array analysis, significantly reducing computational requirements by exploiting array periodicity. The tutorial will also cover workflows for multiband and interleaved antenna arrays as well as installed antenna performance evaluation using strategies that combine multiple electromagnetic solvers to efficiently address structures with varying electrical scales.

In addition, the session will highlight emerging AI-driven design methodologies through the automated development of pixelated patch antennas, along with techniques for modeling radomes and frequency selective surfaces (FSS). Through real-world examples and demonstrations, participants will gain practical insights that can be immediately applied to accelerate phased array development and improve simulation productivity.

Peter Moschetti is a Staff RF Application Engineer at Synopsys supporting aerospace, defense, and national security customers in advanced electromagnetic simulation and antenna, and antenna array design. He is a Ph.D. Candidate in Electrical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines, where his research focuses on phased arrays, additive manufacturing, and computational electromagnetics. Prior to Synopsys, Peter worked at NASA Goddard space flight center where he led antenna development efforts for NASA balloon missions and at Lockheed Martin where he contributed to satellite communications, phased array development, and advanced antenna systems. His work has resulted in numerous publications and a patent.

Michael D’Anna is a Senior Staff RF Application at Ansys: Part of Synopsys supporting FA&D customers. In a past life he worked at BAE Systems in a variety of design roles including MSICs, Antennas, and Microwave Modules for aircraft. He received his MS from UMass Amherst where his thesis project was a novel design for a low cost through the wall radar for detecting people during building clearing operations. He is local to Massachusetts and would be happy to come help you solve cool problems in person or over Teams!
